Literature and Favoritism in Early Modern England

Using analysis of literary texts, this study examines the ideological underpinnings of the heated controversies surrounding powerful royal favorites and the idea of favoritism in the late Elizabethan and early Stuart period. Perry introduces the reader to new ways of thinking about the prehistory of English republican thought.
