Nick Hornby's collection of the essays he published in the literary magazine The Believer divides the books in his house into two piles: Books Bought and Books Read. As Hornby makes his way through them, some get read with enthusiasm and some with increasing displeasure; some he abandons halfway through and some stay on the shelf untouched.
